Gimme Shelter (1970)

Scary and insane, this catastrophic show it's very good directed by the Maysles Brothers and Charlotte Zwerin. Gimme Shelter is an agonizing documentary with unforgettable footages of a tragic Woodstock, with a powerful shock of different minds and behavior. Shocking and unique.

If you aren't intersested in the Rolling Stones, you should be interested in watching a gig go to shit before your eyes. Really tense and eye opening.

You have to be impressed with the amount of work that went into collecting the footage for and editing this portrait of the end of the 60's.

Quite possibly the best live concert documentary ever documented. I didn't live in 1969, but things in that era continue to amaze me, including the idea of letting the Hell's Angels act as a "honor guard" (security) for some of the most peace-loving bands of the time...I think I forsee a bad ending in sight...yep, how about the actual killing of a person caught on film. Yeah, you heard me. Watch it.

Going into Gimme Shelter, I was only concerned with one thing at the time: I wanted to see some concert footage of The Rolling Stones, which is one of my favorite rock and roll bands. I knew that it was a controversial film, but I didn't realize how skillfully-made and well put together that it would actually be. I was actually hypnotized by it, and I think that it's all a matter of how it was put together. Filmmakers David Maysles, Albert Maysles, and Charlotte Zwerin set out to document the last ten days of The Rolling Stones' tour, but it ended with death and tragedy as a free concert at the Altamont Speedway in San Francisco turned violent. It's one of the best concert films ever made because there's something else going on besides just people playing music, which would have been entertaining enough, but this movie just nails it over the head. You can certainly see how Led Zeppelin were influence for their concert film later. It's a great film with great music and a stunning conclusion that will make you want to see it again.
