Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (1969)

Blackmailing a young couple to assist with his horrific experiments the Baron, desperate for vital medical data, abducts a man from an insane asylum. On route the abductee dies and the Baron and his assistant transplant his brain into a corpse. The creature is tormented by a trapped soul in an alien shell and, after a visit to his wife who violently rejects his monstrous form, the creature wreaks his revenge on the perpetrator of his misery: Baron Frankenstein.

This is the fifth Frankenstein´s film of Terence Fisher saga and Peter Cushing's definitive portrayal of the monstrous Baron. The grand guignol revelas a luxurious and strange piece, particulary in that incredible scene where the helpless victim of Frankenstein's latest experiment, (his brain has been transplanted into another man's body against his will) came back to his house traumatizing his incredulous and "feeric" wife. It´s hard to say but I think this is Terence fisher finest attempt to do a multi-horror film, not only an intriguing sci-fi plot, but a real nightmare, a possibility to enlarge a mythical novel.

I fairly enjoyed this one, didnt even realise its the 4th sequel as its not too bad to say its so far down the pecking order. Follows on with the character of Frankenstein played by the superb Cushing and focuses on his reanimation of the human brain. No scary monster in this, but a solid flick none the less.

One of Hammers better Frankenstein films, this time it is not Mary Shelleys book being ripped off again, its an original tale of Peter Cushing trying to swap brains in bodies to bring his dead pal back to life, but he is not that happy being brought back. Peter Cushing is brilliant in this and it is rare to see him playing such a cold hearted person. Simon Ward who sadly passed away last week is also very good. Great Hammer Classic.

My favourite Hammer Frankenstein. This features the Baron at his most ruthless. Hammer's 'Frankenstein' series always played with formula, but the combined talents of Fisher, Cushing, and Freddie Jones lift this film even above your average Hammer.

Very well made- if initially slow- film, with a wonderful third act, that's the best Frankenstein third act save the Whale originals, where the monster can articulate the hell his life is. Full of odd, interesting atcions throughout, with a great performance by Cushing as an increasingly evil Baron Frankenstein.
