During WWII, Germans obtain the immortal heart of Frankenstein's monster and transport it to Japan to prevent it being seized by the Allies. Kept in a Hiroshima laboratory, it is seeming lost when the United States destroys the city with the atomic bomb. Years later a wild boy is discovered wandering the streets of the city alone, born of the immortal heart.

Nick Adams (TV's ''The Rebel")couldn't get American work so he went and made Japanese monster movies. Also look for Takashi Shimura (Seven Samaurii, Ikiru, Drunken Master)

Nick Adams and Kumi Mizuno star together in this.. what else can I call it.. WONDERFALL masterpiece from the great director Honda... This film is about a mutant Frankenstein that battles a subterranean monster known as Baragon!

Gets a little draggy, and Baragon looks too much like a big-eared puppy, but otherwise pretty neat.

The story of the making of this film is almost as good as its plot. A man with a singular, if consfusing, vision - bring Frankenstein back to the screen, but make him a lot bigger so he can fight King Kong! Well, that didn't happen, and nor did a planned rumble with Godzilla himself (even during a creative nadir where Godzilla Vs. Satan was seriously considered), but the film was finally made. There's even a direct sequel, but they lost the Frankenstein licence so it was released as "War Of The Gargantuas". You wouldn't credit it, but this is decently plotted and quite well acted and paced. The big let-down is Baragon, who looks a bit too goofy with his big floppy ears. Still, this is better than some of the worse Godzilla films, so not a bad effort really.
