A stunning, enrapturing film, a crowning work by one of the American cinema’s most essential artists.

Absolutely fantastic. All actors are perfection. Ethan is so relatable and pitifully solemn but at the same time intriguengly likeable.

Slow-burn, thought-provoking, utterly engrossing, Didn't guess the ending!

Not too fond of the ending but I think a real ending would have ruined the movie for most.

This movie is flying under the radar right now but I decided to take a chance on it this weekend and let me tell you this is a very dark and depressing movie. Now I know which you must be thinking reading this, why would you give something dark and depressing 5 stars? It is more about how the cast and crew portrayed their message on the screen. The whole time I was watching this I was feeling Ethan Hawke's character's depression and watching it get worse and worse. It is very well directed and written by Paul Schrader and had lots of Taxi Driver feels (as he is the writer of both). If you love Taxi Driver I believe this is in the same realm but it takes a step further and is much darker. I found this to be a great film no matter how depressing it was.
