Conan the Barbarian (1982)

A horde of rampaging warriors massacre the parents of young Conan and enslave the young child for years on The Wheel of Pain. As the sole survivor of the childhood massacre, Conan is released from slavery and taught the ancient arts of fighting. Transforming himself into a killing machine, Conan travels into the wilderness to seek vengeance on Thulsa Doom, the man responsible for killing his family. In the wilderness, Conan takes up with the thieves Valeria and Subotai. The group comes upon King Osric, who wants the trio of warriors to help rescue his daughter who has joined Doom in the hills.

I really do love this film, it is Schwarzenegger at his best. My only real complaint about this film is that some of the effects are dated. But, I can't really hold that against the film considering the year it was made.

I have always loved this movie. "Do you want to live forever?" It is great that Valeria comes back from the after life to fight beside Conan at the end. I love sword fighting and it is just a great movie. I can't say enough about it.

The original stories are widely considered the definitive sword and sorcery adventures, and the movie does a fantastic job of bringing that to the big screen. The casting for all the characters is so perfect, and I would go so far to say that Schwarzenegger's accent is an advantage to the movie. The fight scenes are brutal and well choreographed; the overall production design is impressive; and there's even some pretty damn poignant dialog. Totally a must-see for any action/fantasy fan.

I feel the same way about this work today as I did almost 30 years ago. Good vs. evil. Revenge by flesh weilding steel. Grindingly powerfull characters, scenery, story, and musical score. Iconic, in my eyes.

Arnold's best movie. Though it differs form Mr Howards short storys he would have been proud. I watched this a few weeks ago and was blow away how good this still is. Mako's monolong at the start brought the bigest smile to my face. Basil Poledouris's score is breath taking. Most of the movies I liked as a kid have not stood the test of time. This I am happy to say is not one of them.
