While the lead performances are outstandingly well done, the main message and film ends up being watered down to the point where the guys change of heart kind of makes no sense.

Based on a true story this movie details a women's experience while being held captive by an escaped convict. Through her ordeal she is able to extinguish her own demons of drug addiction while also sharing a message of hope to her captor. Wouldn't think this would be an upbeat movie but it actually works pretty well.

There's definitely a lot of room for improvement especially due to the fact that this film is based on a chilling true story. David Oyelowo and Kate Mara gave it their all but to an inevitable, uninspiring ending.

"Captive" remains frustratingly dull, and ultimately it becomes emotionally dishonest, trying to steer the audience into a direction of Christian awakening the feature hasn't earned.
