the first one was tight & tense while this one is grandiose. epic. it takes its time, but it's THE best prequel i've ever seen!!! it examines what happened to the characters to push them towards where they are in the first film in deep and unexpected ways. highest recommendation.

An exception to the rule... A sequel that is better than the original... This in my own opinion though. The character study is intriguing as you know the leads eventual fate.

Excellent sequel, if a bit confused. In lieu of the tightness of the IA1, IA2 seems sprawling. It manages to work well in some parts, expanding the characters greatly, but in other parts, it just seems not well thought out. However, it does its job admirably well, making me want to watch IA1 again. Tsang and Wong are very fine in this one and Shawn Yue manages to hold his own. Edison Chen is terrible though.

This film is a Masterwork. I watch IA1 years ago and didn't want to spoil it by seeing the sequels/prequels - these almost always suck. Well I was wrong. This is a brilliant film. One of the best films I have ever seen in fact. It even brings in some excellent political commentary. Now on to see if IA3 can keep up the high standards of 1 and 2. If it does this will go down as my best trilogy of all time. Godfather 3 was an abomination.
