slow movie, however very well written and actors were great.

"Beatriz at Dinner" offers no satisfying resolution for the chasm between those who consume and those who serve, or between the small and the self-important. It's a sobering downer.

All of the little problems that people had with this movie are exactly why I love it. The perceived "heavy handedness" of the message plays a lot more naturally than you might think, and the truth is that as the majority of audiences that see this will likely be white, they need some things spelled out, no matter how "woke" they think they are. If you think anything about this movie is cliche or too loud, think about who the president is, and how much of a problem racial tension still is, and how much environmental destruction still occurs. Also Salma Hayek and John Lithgow turn in great performances.

This movie is a good reminder that John Lithgow is one of the most underrated actors alive. His performance in this movie stole the show, despite a strong showing from Salma Hayek and the rest of the cast. I saw a preview that advertised this as the first movie of the Trump era, and it certainly lived up to that superlative, with Lithgow's character being the embodiment of the greed, selfishness and crudity that has plagued the White House. The only flaw of the movie is the ending, which was painfully disappointing and anticlimactic.

I'm not sure whether Beatriz at Dinner is, as advertised, "the first great film of the Trump era" (Get Out might beg to differ), but that's a reductive tag anyway. Its concerns go deeper.
