Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949)

When his mother eloped with an Italian opera singer, Louis Mazzini was cut off from her aristocratic family. After the family refuses to let her be buried in the family mausoleum, Louis avenges his mother's death by attempting to murder every family member who stands between himself and the family fortune. But when he finds himself torn between his longtime love and the widow of one of his victims, his plans go awry.

A fantastic ealing comedy, Guinness play umpteen characters, each one totally unique, one the true great acting talents.

Deliciously dark and funny. Alot is always said about Alec Guinness and his 8 parts (deservedly so), but not enough about Dennis Price who adds to the fun by playing it so straight, likeable and charming whether he's wooing women or murdering his own relatives! The Best of all the Ealing comedies.

Directed by Robert Hamer Starring Dennis Price, Alec Guinness, Valerie Hobson, Joan Greenwood Mention the movie and the first thing that comes to mind is Alec Guinness and his performances, tackling eight roles of the noble D?Ascoyne line of dukedom that it overshadowed in popularity Dennis Price?s own priceless role of the scheming, murdering outcast of the royal blood: Louis Mazzini D?Ascoyne was the heart and soulessness of this excellent British black comedy. The movie is wonderful storytelling caught in the irony of the first person narrative. Engaging and exciting with an unforgettable host of characters in the tradition of great British acting. A comedy of manners, a delightful piece. Best Scene: Louis and Sibella talk suicide note. QUOTE: ?Sprockett?s farm?? ?No, your Grace. Scotland Yard.?
