my favourite movie for a great number of years. i still love it. "damn you 'enry 'iggins " :)). this is the reason why i love audrey hepburn. she might have had no voice, but she could surely act.

One of the very last of the great Hollywood musicals, it is a supremely elegant screen. The film was a huge commercial success, grossing over seventy million dollars. The film certainly has plenty going for it.

Though I would give most anything to be stuffed into a time machine and transported back to 1956 Broadway to see the original Eliza, a 19 year old Julie Andrews, perform this on the stage of the Mark Hellinger Theatre, this wonderfully adapted movie version is thankfully more than sufficient. Considered by many a musical theatre aficionado as the pinnacle of the American musical, Lerner and Loewe masterfully transformed the legendary Shaw play into a perhaps equally legendary musical. Rex Harrison is here reprising his role as Higgins with just as much crass dry humor. As is Stanley Holloway and Wilfrid Hyde-White. Audrey is a true treasure and just as lovable as ever as the cockney Eliza. If you don't like this movie you are not my friend.

Few genres of films are as magical as musicals, and few musicals are as intelligent and lively as My Fair Lady. It's a classic not because a group of stuffy film experts have labeled it as such, but because it has been, and always will be, a pure joy to experience.
