A superb film that while honouring the courage of the defenders of Rourke's Drift also honours the bravery and determination of their Zulu opponents. Apparently, the South African authorities wouldn't let the film company pay the black extras the same as the white ones - so they bought cattle to the same value and gave them those instead...

There are some wicked quotes in this film, just begging to be sampled. Classic heroic tale, can't wait for the yanks to remake it,... Not! Stop stealing our great films and remaking them you b*st*ds!

Brilliant! When I first had a video player, centuries ago, this was the one film I really wanted. Again music by John Barry, original and completly capturing the atmosphere of the film

the tale of the British stand at Rorke's Drift in 1879 against the Zulus is great because of the way it avoids demonizing any one side; for its time the level of PC in this movie and the ability of Cy Endfield to depict the Zulus with no amount of contempt make this not only a balanced war film but a very poignant one as well; try to ignore the outdated special effects; the closing scenes are great!
