Many quite minutes in this movie, but I loved that. It left you feeling sick and thinking of the humankind a bit longer and that was needed, believe me. LOVED that they made a movie about Pearce.

The film is at times tasteless and unpalatable but the screenplay, based on four confessions Pearce gave after his capture, has a certain level of interest to it.

A group of convicts escape from a Tasmanian prison. A classic Australian story of desperation, brutality.. and cannibalism. An excellent film to watch when you're in a quiet or serious mood. Shot in the beautiful wilderness of Tasmania, in a quiet and almost minimalist fashion, the scenes of violence and depraved sentiments are strongly contrast and are memorable amongst the gorgeous scenery, while at the same time making themselves right at home despite this because Tasmania's beauty is of the dark, soulful, almost melancholy variety. Still, at points, the film feels thin, but this helped by scenes when the tension surrounding a murder is almost unbearable, and I would have liked to connect with the characters just a tiny bit more- just a little extra depth and I would have been truly disturbed.

A gruelling, grim film about convicts on the run who turn to cannibalism. Does a good job of capturing the sheer hell of what they went through, and their descent into a kind of madness, but not exactly an enjoyable watch.
