Another fine installment in this great series. It is a little more developed than some of the others in the series, and some of the suspense here comes in the form of complcated developments leading to the invevitable clash of swords. One thing that I think needs to be mentioned when talking about this series - And again, a very fine series it is - Is just how similar the story is in each movie. Reluctant hero reticently tries to avoid conflict, in unerringly drawn into it, and in some way or form saves the day only to be sent packing on his way - If you likes The Incredible Hulk T.V. show, or even Dr. Who Tv. Show, this formula will seem familiar - It started here as far as I know, and is done better here than in many other places. This is an absolute winner !

An awesome addition to the prolific Zatoichi series. Its use of humor intertwined with wisdom adds a strong support in contrast with the 1-2 minute long takes of Character Drama. Excellent cinematography that showcases the forest environment of Japan. A more unusual twist is the abstract use of cross dissolves and spot lighting as masterfully demonstrated in the films opening credits. It may come across as cliche now but it was ground breaking in 1964 and it still holds up today.

This one was a solid little film in the series, with our man Zatoichi mistaken for a thief and forced to work with a Yakuza boss to prove their innocence and find the real crook. This series is a helluva lot of fun, though I don't know if marathoning them is the best method to view, as the general tropes start to get a bit monotonous. Recommended.

One of the most innovatively filmed in the series with a story outside the formula. If you see one Zatoichi movie, make it this one!
