Wonder Wheel (2017)

The story of four characters whose lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of the Coney Island amusement park in the 1950s: Ginny, an emotionally volatile former actress now working as a waitress in a clam house; Humpty, Ginny's rough-hewn carousel operator husband; Mickey, a handsome young lifeguard who dreams of becoming a playwright; and Carolina, Humpty's long-estranged daughter, who is now hiding out from gangsters at her father's apartment.

This reasonibily considered a minor movie by Allen. The screenplay is not as solid as usual. An easibily forgettable movie.

It may not be one of the best, most inspired and fully realized classics in the master director’s oeuvre, but it towers above almost everything else in the junk pile of 2017 year-end releases.

Movies don’t become great by association, and Wonder Wheel is a far cry from “Streetcar.” There are ample flaws in this film, but they certainly don’t rise to the level of tragic.

Visually stunning, a superb performance from Kate Winslet and a mise en scene that is not only captivating but refreshing. I've enjoyed this latest Woody Allen offering. While not perfect, I think is a worthy addition to his filmography.
