Married couple Jack and Terry Linden are experiencing a difficult period in their relationship. When Jack decides to step outside the marriage, he becomes involved with Edith, who happens to be the wife of his best friend and colleague, Hank Evans. Learning of their partners' infidelity, Terry and Hank engage in their own extramarital affair together. Now, both marriages and friendships are on the brink of collapse.

Two young couples with young children are best friends who teach at a university - one teaches literature, the other is a writer teaching creative writing. The Mark Ruffalo character is having an affair with his friend's wife. Waiting for them to get caught provides the suspense. The movie switches from each one of the four throughout which makes for a kind of poetic effect which I liked a lot. The ending wasn't what I expected. This doesn't get an especially high rating on either IMDB or RT, but I liked it fine. Four stars.

A train wreck of a movie. You can see all these terrible things happening, but cannot divert your eyes. The things that worked most were the music, which was composed excellently, and the juxtaposition of dialogue and sound effects from someone watching a television over another scene entirely. Whatever is being said or heard really compliments what is being seen. For example, Jack is watching a western on the television with his kids and in the next scene Jack comes face to face with Hank after a bomb is dropped as the score and sound effects continue from the western. It works perfectly. Besides some questionable acting choices from Ruffalo and Dern, this is a solid film that shows what can happen when friends sleep with other friends' spouses.
