After her husband dies, Alice and her son, Tommy, leave their small New Mexico town for California, where Alice hopes to make a new life for herself as a singer. Money problems force them to settle in Arizona instead, where Alice takes a job as waitress in a small diner.

Cuando Ellen Burstyn le preguntó a Martin Scorsese si sabía algo sobre las mujeres, el director respondió: "No. Pero quiero aprender". Con "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", Scorsese se mete en el terreno del drama femenino y sale triunfante, gracias a su sólida dirección y a la magnífica actuación de Burstyn. Este drama imperdible luego se convirtió en una comedia para la televisión.

I remember the first time I saw this movie, my brother and I agreed that it was amazing that Martin Scorcese had finally cast Harvey Keitel in a role that made him appear sane, charming and even endearing. Then he started breaking windows and shit. I adore this movie, so much.

I could not believe that this was directed by Scorsese! It's a drama about a woman whose awful husband dies. She takes her son on the road and they go to build a new life. The writing is witty, Ellen Burstyn's acting and relationship with the son are poignant and touching and then there's Kris Kristofferson. He may be old, but damn, that man is sexy! Also stars a very young Jody Foster and a strangely cleancut Harvey Keitel.

This movie is just perfectly put together. From the Mott the Hoople song during the opening credits to Ellen Burstyn and Alfred Lutter's funny and endearing mother/son relationship. This is a great film for all of us on a journey towards self-discovery (which I think includes everyone.)
