Trespass (1992)

Two Arkansas firemen, Vince and Don, get hold of a map that leads to a cache of stolen gold in an abandoned factory in East St. Louis. What they don't know is that the factory is on the turf of a local gang, who come by to execute one of their enemies. Vince sees the shooting, the gang spots Vince, and extended mayhem ensues. As Vince and Don try to escape, gang leader King James argues with his subordinate Savon about how to get rid of the trespassers.

So much pleasure to watch this movie and whoever said what, this is one of the best thrillers ever made.

A memorable film, as it is excellent in creating setting and mood. A great film of the early nine tee's it's strength is that it is unique, which makes it all that more entertaining. the setting and backdrop are excellently executed, with the use of a derelict and abandoned building complex providing visceral realism. the ghetto tone provides the over all feel for the film. well shot scenes and interactions, provide for an engaging film that is easy to follow. Trespass also has an element of childhood fantasy; in that it deals with a hunt for lost treasure. The characters are well casted and genuine, providing another key strength for the film. ultimately the reactions of the characters create a realistic environment and insight.

Everything in the screenplay seems arbitrary, including the firefighting jobs assigned to the two would-be treasure-seekers. They could as easily be magazine salesmen or amateur songwriters.

While the plot at first glance might seem a bit outrageous, the movie is pulled off without to many hitches. What I like about the movie is the human emotion and interaction between the characters. This was truly a great casting choice on all levels.
