Sadistic killer-for-hire Philip Raven becomes enraged when his latest job is paid off in marked bills. Vowing to track down his double-crossing boss, nightclub executive Gates, Raven sits beside Gates' lovely new employee, Ellen, on a train out of town. Although Ellen is engaged to marry the police lieutenant who's hunting down Raven, she decides to try and set the misguided hit man straight as he hides from the cops and plots his revenge.

I love these kind of movies. Film-noir is just awesome. While not the greatest example, this is a good flick. l love those cars and those hairstyles on the gorgeous dames. Veronica Lake was beautiful in this movie.

Shaky noir that started the career of Alan Ladd. Ladd's definitely the bright spot here, and while the story spends way too much time faffing around for a convenient way to put Ladd and Lake in a darkened room together, it does pick up significantly after it gets them there.

The more of film noir that I see, the more I love it as a genre. This has to be one of the best, if not the best that I have seen so far. Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd are dynamite. I can see how Ladd used this to eventually gain stardom through Shane and other vehicles.

Early classic film noir is excellent and made a star of Alan Ladd. Great story and cinematography. Veronica Lake is terrific. Very entertaining.
