Sadistic killer-for-hire Philip Raven becomes enraged when his latest job is paid off in marked bills. Vowing to track down his double-crossing boss, nightclub executive Gates, Raven sits beside Gates' lovely new employee, Ellen, on a train out of town. Although Ellen is engaged to marry the police lieutenant who's hunting down Raven, she decides to try and set the misguided hit man straight as he hides from the cops and plots his revenge.

the first of 3 noir thrillers that teamed up lake n ladd=great combo i've seen ths movie sooo many times but i just spotted a mistake in it-when they are at the carnival walking u can see the shadow of the boom mic following them lake & donlevy) as they walk

Laughably old fashioned in places, but really entertaining. Ladd and Lake make a great team.

Great film noir. I seriously could watch the part where he shoots the one chick throug the door over and over and over. It can be super cliche sometimes, but when you're in the mood for it, it's great. and really, I'm biased towards Ladd and Lake because they were representing the shorties like me!

Early classic film noir is excellent and made a star of Alan Ladd. Great story and cinematography. Veronica Lake is terrific. Very entertaining.
