The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973)

The police and British security forces call in Professor Van Helsing to help them investigate Satanic ritual which has been occurring in a large country house, and which has been attended by a government minister, an eminent scientist and secret service chief. The owner of the house is a mysterious property tycoon who is found to be behind a sinister plot involving a deadly plague. It is in fact Dracula who, sick of his interminable existence, has decided that he must end it all in the only possible way- by destroying every last potential victim.

It's alright. The end is extremely lazy and abrupt. Cushing and Lee give good performances as usuall, but everything else is just kinda blah.

The film started off pretty damn rubbish, but once it gets going there are glimmers of a good film in there, somewhere beneath the rubbish camera work. Some bits worked, some bits didn't - some bits I enthralled, some bits I was laughing when I shouldn't have been. At least Dracula's death scene this time was pretty cool, despite being hilariously blasphemous. Could've been worse, but could've been a whole lot better.

I like that the bad guys all wear fleece-lined leather vests. Dracula isn't in it much, but it's kind of great.

Decent end to the series, though Dracula as a reclusie property magnate guarded by hells angels is a bit silly. Lee looks fed up but Cushing is as great as ever.
