The Satanic Rites of Dracula (1973)

The police and British security forces call in Professor Van Helsing to help them investigate Satanic ritual which has been occurring in a large country house, and which has been attended by a government minister, an eminent scientist and secret service chief. The owner of the house is a mysterious property tycoon who is found to be behind a sinister plot involving a deadly plague. It is in fact Dracula who, sick of his interminable existence, has decided that he must end it all in the only possible way- by destroying every last potential victim.

This movie was quite entertaining. Don't watch it expecting amazements. There are none. But it is quite humorous and silly. It was the first movie my girlfriend and I watched together.

This is probably the worst vampire movie of the 70s, I mean, Dracula has some crazy plot to take over the world? That doesn't make sense. The story and actors are bad, and I didn't like this movie at all.

This is the dire follow up to Dracula A.D. 1972. Although they kept it set in modern day, gone is the campy groovy feel. This is played out as a cop mystery-thriller. Dracula has become a big businessman and wants to destroy the world with a deadly virus. Even if it is conceivably the most original Dracula tale? The problem I found with this entry is that it is slow moving. I?m kept waiting for something to happen. Christopher Lee gets less time on screen than normal but when he does pop up he looks so bored with the whole thing anyway. Cushing is solid as always. I can only recommend this to true Hammer fans who might want to see it just for the sake of it being the Last of Hammers Dracula?s.

What happens when Dracula becomes interested in a world domination through blackmail? He becomes a blood-sucking Bond villain trapped in an episode of The Avengers! Lee and Cushing do their best, but this is so bad it has to be seen.

An original direction to take a tremendously played-out franchise, but I think I'd have been happier with no eighth Dracula film at all, rather than this particular eighth Dracula film.
