Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966)

Whilst vacationing in the Carpathian Mountain, two couples stumble across the remains of Count Dracula's castle. The Count's trusted servant kills one of the men, suspending the body over the Count's ashes so that the blood drips from the corpse and saturates the blackened remains. The ritual is completed, the Count revived and his attentions focus on the dead man's wife who is to become his partner; devoted to an existence of depravity and evil.

The all time classic Dracula film... One of Christopher Lee's best roles... This black-white atmoshpere makes the film charming...

Great performance by Lee even though he doesn't say a word....

Terence Fisher, created a classic for Hammer Horror. Christoher Lee played the best Dracula I've ever seen, & with Peter Cushing co.starring as Dr.Van Helsing which made this a classic horror film. People may say that its not all that because of the dramatic music and the poorly made special effects, but if you actually sit down & watch it you'll see how good the story lines are & how good the acting is. Terence Fisher I applued for a classic film.

Hammer's sequel may not pack the punch the first film does, but it is still in faithful style from the production house and is worth a look.

Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966) -- [6.0] -- Christopher Lee dons the fangs again for this first sequel to Hammer's original "Horror of Dracula", but he hated his dialogue so much that he refused to say any lines. Even though he's mute and his screen time is limited, a little Lee goes a long way. His performance is interesting and unusual, a more feral depiction than any of his other Dracula outings. Unfortunately, everything else about the movie is just mediocre, starting with the script, which is slow to get started and too much like the first film. But for me, even mediocre Hammer is good Hammer. Highlights include a nice human sacrifice to bring Dracula back from the grave, a climactic struggle on the frozen castle moat, and another fine bit of bombastic scoring by Hammer alum James Bernard.
