Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966)

Whilst vacationing in the Carpathian Mountain, two couples stumble across the remains of Count Dracula's castle. The Count's trusted servant kills one of the men, suspending the body over the Count's ashes so that the blood drips from the corpse and saturates the blackened remains. The ritual is completed, the Count revived and his attentions focus on the dead man's wife who is to become his partner; devoted to an existence of depravity and evil.

Minimalist and effective followup to HORROR OF DRACULA. Fast-moving and gruesome.

The second Hammer Dracula, once more with Christopher Lee in his signature role. Perhaps not as great as its predecessor, with a build-up that takes just a wee bit too long, but every other bit as entertaining and - for its time - shockingly bloody. Also, as vampire flicks go, the ending is one of the more original I've seen. Definitely worth it.

Ok, even thought I am now older, I must confess that Christopher Lee stills scares the crap out of me in most of his Dracula movies, especially in this one. It gives me the chills and I watch from under a blanket wrapped protectively around me. This installment in the Hammer Dracula films is one of the top three, if not top two. Very Scary and Creepy.

Decent Dracula story. Christopher Lee may be the definite Count, but he lacks good material to work with in this film. Entertaining, tho.

Full of the sensual mysteriousness which Hammer used to achieve so effortlessly during their long occupation of Bray Studios. Starting with a re-run of the Count's dusty demise at the hands of Van Helsing, this was the official sequel toÂ Dracula, and - though it tails off - the first hour has real grandeur as Dracula's servant uses a prudish Victorian couple to effect his master's restoration.
