This is the movie that made Bogart a player in Hollywood!

Chronicles a group of people each individual trying to make a little scratch on the world during their brieft time inhabiting it. Atmospheric and thoughtful. Humphrey is charasmatic, if a touch OTT. Great support from other actors

Short and entertaining film starring Leslie Howard who plays a wandering traveler who stops at a diner in the middle of the Arizona desert that Bette Davis works at. Of course, at the same time, killer Humphrey Bogart is on the loose and takes shelter at the diner while a sand storm starts to take place. Cool set up, though obviously based on a play it's a nicely done adaptation. Howard was excellent, and it's a great role for Bogart (his first big role). It goes by very quickly because it's got great dialogue, there's even a funny little gag I couldn't help but laugh at involving a college name. Worth checking out if you want some early suspense.

"So long pal, I'll be seeing you!" A brutal and demented film in which most of the characters are just awful toward each other; they spit bile back and forth without a wink or a pause. And that's before Bogie's escaped convict takes them hostage! Leslie Howard is perfectly "intellectual" and the inevitable collision with Bogie's gangster provides for amazing tension. VF.

Un film piuttosto duro, insolito, tutto ambientato in un deserto ricostruito in studio. Personaggi senza troppe sfumature, bravissimi attori. Bello il contrasto tra il poeta squattrinato d'animo nobile-Leslie Howard e il lucido killer spietato-Humphrey Bogart (al suo primo ruolo importante)
