Sir Robert Chiltern is a successful government minister, well-off and with a loving wife. All this is threatened when Mrs Cheveley appears in London with damning evidence of a past misdeed. Sir Robert turns for help to his friend Lord Goring, an apparently idle philanderer and the despair of his father. Goring knows the lady of old, and, for him, takes the whole thing pretty seriously.

A brilliant adaptation of Wilde, who is fabulous at dialogue. My crush on Jeremy Northam is actually overwhelmed in this movie by how brilliant Rupert Everett is. And with Cate, Minnie, and Julianne also as fabulous as they are, how could it go wrong?

Awesome, awesome movie. I loved it, and I really need to buy it. Rupert Everett is wonderful, and Minnie Driver acting opposite does a great job. I wish I could see the pair of them in more movies.

Rupert Everett is so condescending in this movie! But he's still very likable. Very, very likable.

This is a wonderfully witty Wildean story full of memorable lines and lots of twists. Rupert Everett stands out as the smart-ass with a great sense for fashion. Julianne Moore is very amusing as the crafty blackmailer, and the cast in general earned all the 5 stars(Cate Blanchett!). I found this film very entertaining and definitely worth while-I reccomend it!

wow umn just seen this movie 4 the 1st time n think that this is a good movie 2 watch...its got a good cast of actors/actressess throughout this movie...i think that cate blanchett, jeremy northam, john wood, rupert everett, minnie driver, julianne moore, play good parts throughout this movie...i think that the director of this comedy movie had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throughout this movie its an enjoyable movie 2 watch with a good cast throughout this movie
