The Organizer is an interesting study of the working class in Italy and how the labor union was important to these lovable and fleshed out characters. The film breathes realism but remains entertaining throughout with both funny and moving scenes about power struggles and the working class in the late 1800's.

Set in hard working-class settlement, the workers are forced to work inhuman hours every day, increasing the chance of unexpected injuries. After a man gets his arm crippled, the workers tries to cut the day short by an hour without much luck, only punishment. What they need is a union or even better: a organizer. Arriving like a refugetive Marcelo Mastroianni, somewhat accidentally burst into this as their organizer. The movie itself captures the feeling of poor Italy of the 20th century and gives us insight in the mind of the working man. The voice of the common people. Mastroianni performing with high class as usual.

Unfortunately, I kept thinking about how this movie reminded me of Ken Loach, and just from association I assumed I should be hating what I was watching. But aside from the obvious Socialist props, this was on some awesome neo-realism-cum-slapstick tip.

A comical advocacy for workers' rights. Well made and acted.

A underrated masterpiece by the great Mario Monicelli - his finest work of all. Marcello Mastroianni gives yet another fine performance and Annie Girandot also makes her mark. Don't miss it!
