Moving the inaction of this series to the Louisiana Bayou, the Mummy gets extricated by archaeologists, only for an evil Egyptologist to resurrect him and his thoughts of endless love. For its plus, The Mummy's Curse boasts an original story not pieced together from other Universal Horror staples. Nonetheless, with this unnecessary go-round, this creature feature sputters to a stop simply because the series is out of gas. In this unrated continuation of the Universal horror series, an irrigation project unearths Kharis the living mummy (Lon Chaney, Jr.), who was buried in quicksand 25 years earlier. And, of course, he goes on a killing spree. Still a bit fun but shambling long past its sell-by date, this Mummy tale sees Chaney return for his last lead-footed turn as Kharis. Some new writers point the goings-on in a different direction but Curse, filmed the same year as Ghost, just can't distinguish itself away from its last 3 ragged forebears. A fairly dismal end to the 1940s run of Universal mummy movies. Rehashing the plot time and again of the first 3 films while adding little new. Lon Chaney looks great once again as The Mummy and the 'monastery' set is spectacular. The best bit of the film though is undoubtedly the appearance of Ananka from the swamp - superb imagery and ghoulishness.

WOW. I guess it was bound to happen...the Mummy takes the bayou! This is almost certainly the worst entry in this series. How a Mummy that drowns in a swamp in Mass. ends up in a Lousiana swamp is among the many unexplainable plot points in this film. Thankfully the movie is only an hour long. Chaney shows no interest in the role...and I don't blame him. Apparently the writers also had no interest in the movie. Virginia Christine isn't bad but the movie certainly is.

"The devil is on the loose, and he's dancin with the Mummy." The one cool thing about this movie is the mummy girl who rises from the swamp, but otherwise this poor follow up doesn't offer any thing new. Changing the setting to Louisiana doesn't help, and the ending is so anti-climatic and cliched. Poor Mummy.
