"Now go. While the moon is still high in the sky. Death goes with you." The third installment in Universal's Mummy series sets our Mummy in New England to cause all sorts of mayhem. My question is: did people in the forties not own flashlights? Are torches required for monster lynchings? The townsfolk even burn down our hero's house while he's still in it! Silly movie and kind of boring as well.

The traditional sort of cheesy horror that comes to mind when people think of old mummy movies; more so than the original THE MUMMY that starred Boris Karloff ten years before. Not a good movie, but an old-fashioned sort of fun, and while notably racist by our standards today, ironically not quite as racially insensitive as the Stephen Sommers movie THE MUMMY from 1999.

A rather dull affair with many scenes directly lifted from earlier Mummy films.

A weak effort saved by the performances of the cast. 30 years have passed since the destruction of Kharis, the living mummy, but now a young high priest returns looking for revenge on those who entered in their sacred tombs. And Kharis is back with him. The story is interesting, but it's all executed in a very mediocre way (there's an over reliance on stock footage). One of the lower Universal films, but it was nice to see Wallace Ford again.

Once again the production design and make-up is fantastic, Chaney is excellent as the titular character but many will have issue with the setting changed to America, which I wasn't exactly impressed with but did bring another dynamic to the overall picture. The connective tissue to the its predecessor is welcoming and adds great depth, then again it tells the story of said film within the first 10 minutes. The climax is ripped straight out from The Bride of Frankenstein and rather annoying with the grand scheme of the franchise.
