The Mummy's Hand (1940)

A couple of young, out-of-work archaeologists in Egypt discover evidence of the burial place of the ancient Egyptian princess Ananka. After receiving funding from an eccentric magician and his beautiful daughter, they set out into the desert only to be terrorized by a sinister high priest and the living mummy Kharis who are the guardians of Ananka's tomb.

It plays like a serial chapter adventure shown during matinees in the 1940s.

A great movie and great sequel which is hard to find in todays movies

Less of a sequel, and more of a slightly superior remake of the original. The only thing that could've made this one even better would have been had it features Karloff as the title monster, but Tom Tyler is pretty good too. Still...it has stronger characters and plot, as a well as a much needed swifter pace, than the original. This time the Mummy is not Imhotep, but Kharis. Kharis has pretty much the same backstory as Imhotep, having his tongue cut out and being buried alive, ready to return from the dead to terrorize some folks. The non-monster characters a little better here, featuring a couple of guys who want to go on an expedition, and get this funny old magician guy to fund it, prompting him and his daughter to come along for the ride. They are solid characters, and they make this picture work. It is odd to say so, but I personally preferred this sequel to the original, which I found pretty boring (much like Dracula before it). I'd recommend this one for a good classic Horror watch during the Halloween season.

Mummy's Hand is one of the four timeless sequels to have been released in the wake of the successful film, The Mummy. This film, however, is in another world as it is not a direct sequel to the predecessor. The film removes Immotep and replaces him with a priest who is buried alive for trying toy with life and death. A curse is placed on his sight with a few faithful defenders, but that soon chang...es when those pesky explorers arrive. The expedition is headed by two people and funded by a nearly broke magician and his daughter. They soon discover the tomb they entered is definitely cursed and to make matters worse, the mummy they found is alive. I was dreading a really limited potential film, but was pleasantly surprised by this sequel. The cast was excellent and lovable because you get to see these guys and know their persona. Mummy's Hand is definitely worth watching.
