Jerry Welbach, a reluctant bagman, has been given two ultimatums: The first is from his mob boss to travel to Mexico and retrieve a priceless antique pistol, known as "the Mexican"... or suffer the consequences. The second is from his girlfriend Samantha to end his association with the mob. Jerry figures alive and in trouble with Samantha is better than the more permanent alternative, so he heads south of the border.

Too fractured and structurally slipshod to amount to much, and so ephemeral that it passes out of the consciousness almost as soon as it unspools.

Virbinksi makes a rom-com, and naturally it's obscure and distinctly magical fun. With a legacy of Leone movies, a magnificent chemistry between all the characters (particularly Roberts as the firey kidnapee and Gandolfini as the gay mafia hitman) this is a wonderfully structured rom-com that deserves recognition over other mediocre entries in a stagnant genre. Wonderfully shot, wittily performed by a dream-cast and teaming with black comedy darker than anything its competetors in the genre would dream of.

The Mexican is ruined not so much by the presence of its A-List stars, and certainly not by their performances, but by their influence.

A fun movie with great chemistry between the two leads. However, as the story drags longer and longer, it does get a bit tiresome.
