Jason Staebler lives on the Boardwalk and fronts for the local mob in Atlantic City. He is a dreamer who asks his brother David, a radio personality from Philadelphia, to help him build a paradise on a Pacific Island, which might be just another of his pie-in-the-sky schemes. Inevitably, complications begin to pile up.

Shares a similar mood and unfulfilled potential as Rafelson's previous Five Easy Pieces, but as opposed to that film this all feels somewhat familiar and if it hadn't been for Nicholson and Dern's performances or Nicholson's opening and closing monologues the film would have been entirely forgettabe.

A rambling attempt at capturing some left-over 60's cinema energy that instead gets across the morning-after melonchaoly that seems to come after many a failed energy burst. See Didion's "The White Album" for a good version of the same.
