Exquisite little French gem. Subtle, intimate, sad yet funny. High calibre acting. Highly recommended for the francophone.

After a minor health scare, 50 yr old bailiff Jean-Claude takes up tango lessons in a bid to keep active. There he meets a bride-to-be learning to tango for her wedding. However, due to her future husband's refusal to go to the lessons she begins to have doubts about the marriage and she and Jean-Claude grow closer. Enjoyable tale of middle-aged disillusionment.

It's French but I loved it. It's not happening at all, far from action, but somehow despite of the lack of eventfullness you get sucked in and enjoy. Possibly I did because the movie reminded me that my life's pretty great and happening, even if I don't know how to tango. In a summary, a moving and positive film.

Broadly speaking, Not Here to Be Loved is a romantic comedy, though the romance is tortuous and the comedy tentative.

beautifully acted and paced drama. It maybe another French older man/younger woman fantasy? But it convinces on most levels so well.
