Cinco personagens tão simples e, ao mesmo tempo, tão complexas, que vivem em uma linha bastante tênue entre a estabilidade e a instabilidade. Só nos resta acompanhar as suas pequenas vitórias e as suas enormes perdas, e sempre sob um clima de incerteza, ansiedade e amargura. Eis aqui a classe média brasileira, em toda a riqueza de sua miséria e desejo. Grande elenco e excelente montagem.

It is as authentic as Salles and Thomas can make it even if it sometimes seems that, apart from the football angle, we have seen it all before. But if you haven't, then it's a real eye-opener.

Just to piss off Sarah, I thought this was a very interesting film which looks at how hard it is for people to escape the circumstances in which they find themselves and the immense frustration that goes with that. And only one of the brothers is interested in becoming a footballer.

Of all the football related movies this is probably the best so far. For once the actors actually knew what they were doing. Unfortunately the directors didn't. Salles seems to know how to pick interesting subjects for his films. Too bad he isn't very original movie maker. That said, you can't really expect much from the Kerouac-filmation can you?
