Dr. Malcolm Sayer, a shy research physician, uses an experimental drug to "awaken" the catatonic victims of a rare disease. Leonard is the first patient to receive the controversial treatment. His awakening, filled with awe and enthusiasm, proves a rebirth for Sayer too, as the exuberant patient reveals life's simple but unutterably sweet pleasures to the introverted doctor.

Just a totally brilliant movie, based on actual events. DeNiro is his usual brilliant and believeable self, Williams is also brilliant. All in all a fantastic movie!

I watched this movie 6 years ago and found it to be far different than what the trailers and synopsis told me and I liked that, it started as a feel good movie of the year kind of movie into a movie that takes a realistic subject and instead of giving it a hollywood ending or a hollywood spin on it it goes in a direction you don't expect. I mean how many movies do you know where Marge Simpson (actress who is the voice of Marge) and Robin Williams fall in love. 6 years since I seen this movie, and I find myself enjoying this movie even more.

Definitely ONE OF THE MOST emotional and moving films that demands to be seen, this touching biography film shows Robin Williams in a career-rocking performance and naturally of course Robert De Niro is splendidly sublime in his beautiful acting. Both De Niro and Williams are genius in this film - you just need to watch them. This great film is spiritually uplifting and tragically sad, sometimes at the same time because of the whole story. And the most touching scene of all was when Leonard Lowe finally recognizes and meets his mother.
