Dr. Malcolm Sayer, a shy research physician, uses an experimental drug to "awaken" the catatonic victims of a rare disease. Leonard is the first patient to receive the controversial treatment. His awakening, filled with awe and enthusiasm, proves a rebirth for Sayer too, as the exuberant patient reveals life's simple but unutterably sweet pleasures to the introverted doctor.

This simple movie is so much more than it appears. The development of all levels of emotion and character inquiry are truly first-rate, not to mention its inherently moving and insightful premise. This film ought to be studied intently by all those seriously interested in the mysteries, wonder and (occasional) terror of human consciousness. Not to be missed by any thinking person.

This movie is amazing, it makes you appretiate both the small things and the greater things. Robin Williams did amazing as expected but Robert De Niro is what really makes this film spectacular, his acting is above many.
