Basically predictable and superficially engaging. The ending is marked by the genre's hysterical obsession with female/ family shame which feels extreme to American viewers. Finally, the epilogue adds the flavor of the absurd, which you never see coming!

Elegante en stijlvolle film, terecht bekroond voor beste soundtrack op Filmfestival Gent. Het psycho-trhillereffect mocht voor mij persoonlijk nog meer uitgespeeld worden, maar uiteindelijk heeft deze film dat zelfs niet nodig.

Euny est une jeune femme plutÃ´t naÃ¯ve embauchÃ©e comme bonne Ã tout faire chez de riches bourgeois Ã SÃ©oul. Rapidement, le maitre de maison en fait sa maÃ®tresse, ou plutÃ´t l'utilise comme objet sexuel, pour satisfaire ces besoins. Les consÃ©quences de cette aventure rapide vont mettre Ã jour la cruautÃ© des rapports de classe. Je m'attendais Ã un film peut-Ãªtre un peu sulfureux, mais il ne s'agit pas du tout de Ã§a. L'aventure sexuelle est un prÃ©texte Ã dÃ©voiler comment les riches manipulent et finissent par dÃ©truire les plus faibles qui les gÃªnent. Plus un thriller psychologique qu'un film sur l'adultÃ¨re, "The Housemaid" est une vraie bonne surprise, Ã dÃ©couvrir.

Why are American films completely incapable of making a sexy adult drama/thriller like this that does not find itself turning into an expensive, A-list serial killer or stalker/slasher movie?
