Texan Charles Farmer left the Air Force as a young man to save the family ranch when his dad died. Like most American ranchers, he owes his bank. Unlike most, he's an astrophysicist with a rocket in his barn - one he's built and wants to take into space. It's his dream. The FBI puts him under surveillance when he tries to buy rocket fuel, and the FAA stalls him when he files a flight plan – but Charles is undeterred.

I thought I was going to be annoyed with this film because of how much politics it seemed like there would be from the previews. But honestly the point of the film isn't about politics but about a dream, faithfulness. It took a turn I wasn't expecting, but it was worth it. They did a good job.

I absolutely love this feel good movie! Okay, so a little cheesy in its "never give up on your dreams" story, but it's very well done and Thornton really elevates this movie above average. The film is heart warming and good fun in the same way that "October Sky" is.

Charlie Farmer is not so sunny that he doesn't carry a bit of menace with him - in the end he may be closer to Lonesome Rhodes than Sheriff Andy Taylor. This freak is going to be lighting something up - might as well be a rocket.
