Samual Curtis's first mission in this bizarre science fiction musical comedy requires him to take a cat to a saloon on an asteroid. There, he meets his former dance partner (the Blueberry Pirate) and collects his payment: a device capable of producing a Real Live Girl. You could take any frame of this film and hang it in your house, and it would be beautiful. Add an interesting story and amazing songs, and you get awesome squared. RIO YETI RIO YETI RIO YETI RIO YETI RIO YETI

This is one of my Top-10 movies of all-time. It's a deadpan space-western-musical with great music and dry humor. Multiple girlfriends have fallen asleep trying to watch it. I don't know why. It's not for everyone, but it's awesome.

This is my other favorite sci-fi movie. Sure, it falls apart a bit towards the beginning of the last act but the music and other silliness makes up for it. Stop jerking off to your special edition and Donnie Darko and watch this.

Perhaps the musical interludes are a bit ponderous at times, sure. But McAbee had me at hello - or, in this case, the first scene of the film, a dance contest at an interplanetary watering hole. Not that it's downhill from there, necessarily - he has a gift for making the absurdities of this plot seem well within the bounds of reason. Beautifully shot, too, especially on the budget.
