Enourmously inventive space-musical. Astronaut shoots about the galaxy making dodgy deals and friends. The design of the film is very much Flash Gordon gee-whizzery bred with range emptiness and Scott's space-truckin' Co. Giant steam press planets - complete with emasculated sweaty workforces - sit alongside space-worthy wooden barns built by hyper-intelligent silver miners. Folksy bluesy mountain man rock-numbers pop up with welcome regularity, and long stretches are dedicated to anecdotal tales that careen wildly out of control. The American Astronaut is hilarious, full of great music, and displays an insane amount of on-the-cheap technical proficiency. It's like a particularly witty album inlay card has come to life and made a film about itself.

Brilliant! Like nothing you've seen or will see! Cory McAbee is an amazing talent!

One of the best films I've ever seen. A journey through the mind of Corey McAbee and the Billy Nayer Show. Beautifully rendered in lush B&W photography.

This movie, although can be disturbing at times and probably not for everyone, is always honest, unbelievably original, and definitely entertaining ))) "Hey Boy" is quite possibly one of the greatest musical scenes ever featured in motion pictures.

I spent hours trying to figure out "meets" for this one: "Outland" meets "Pennies from Heaven"? "Singin' in the Rain" meets "Dark Star"? Doesn't really work in this case. Why aren't you watching this right now? Go. Go watch.
