Very good movie. The plotting is fairly solid, jumping on the aliens in plain sight formula before X-Files, the pacing keeps the viewer interested, the visual effects are pretty good for the time and budget, and the performances are strong, especially Sheen.

Promise was shown, but it didn't quite deliver for some reason. If Kubrick or Spielberg had made it, it might have been one of the best sci-fi movies of the 90's.

The CGI alien special effects are only so-so, but the film is rich in ideas, well-executed and is pleasingly entertaining even if silly.

Murderous suspense. The ending doesn't quite work. Zane doesn't really have any proof, so that's sort of stupid. But this is a very well crafted movie.

While Twohy has some fabulous technology at his disposal and uses it to great effect, the answer to that second question is obvious: He keeps us on the edge of our seats not by dazzling us with lights and sound (even if the sound is spectacular) but by tantalizing his audience with basic, well-wrought suspense.
