The Invasion (2007)

Washington, D.C. psychologist Carol Bennell and her colleague Dr. Ben Driscoll are the only two people on Earth who are aware of an epidemic running rampant through the city. They discover an alien virus aboard a crashed space shuttle that transforms anyone who comes into contact with it into unfeeling drones while they sleep. Carol realizes her son holds the key to stopping the spread of the plague and she races to find him before it is too late.

I loved this; not sure why I missed seening it in theaters 2 years ago. Basically an alien spore lands on earth which takes affect while you sleep, changing your DNA to theirs. The only way you can fool the infected is to show no emotion. Starring Nicole Kidman,and Daniel Craig;who are fantastic. Kidman does a very good job of not showing emotion which is actually not as easy as it sounds. This is a remake of the film "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" which I have not seen so I can not compare. If you have seen any of the other versions you probably won't like this. However I definitely recommend seeing this film, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Out of the 4 or 5 versions of this movie that have been made, I have only seen the original and this one. Although I enjoyed the original, I must admit that I prefer this one. The idea of microscopic alien organisms reconstructing our DNA is a better idea than switching out our bodies with duplicates that were grown from pea-pods. The ending to this one was also much more satisfying than the random dropoff that was the ending of the original. However, the film does lack originality, being a remake for the third+ time. The style can also be seen as being similar to that of zombie films. Packed with a high amount of tension and questions of humanity, I found 'The Invasion' to be quite an enjoyable film.
