One thing this film possesses that few do is a stamp of originality, but what it has in good intentions it lacks in coherent writing, directing, and editing. The performances are rendered flat by the obviously dubbed dialogue and much of the plot is lost in a boring jumble, but occasionally good scenes pop up to remind you of what you could be seeing in the hands of a better filmmaker. Still, the marks of originality make this worth seeing. I can only offer criticism from the point of view of the director's cut. I can't vouch for any other version of the film, and, judging from what I've seen, any cut could be wildly different.

Long seen as an uber cult movie Richard Stanleys second film is a reall let down for this viewer after finaly tracking it down on DVD. The main problems are twofold ,firstly the two leads are soo dull that when the excitement and hororr kick in ,your brain has start to wander all over the place and as a result the interest level dissapates greatly. It doesn't help that the director seems to think he is Nicholas Roeg circa 1971 with Walkabout while he actually feels like Ken Russel Circa 1986 Crimes of Passion. The film feels like one long boring pop promo and you get the impression Stanley did this to cover up some holes in the story. Their are some plus points with the supporting cast most notably and the loaction ,but sadly my enjoyment of the film had long since vanished after another poinless arty shot. A cult movie for some then but pure boredom for this viewer.

Dissapointing South African horror. Would have made a good episode of Night Gallery or something. Some nice landscapes, and above ground cinematography, but mostly very dull. I liked the African Cop, but the female lead, and the Dust Devil himself, are a real drag on screen.

strange western occult thriller has just enough ideas to keep it afloat in a sea of 80s cheese. the acting of the two leads is dreadful. i watched the 107 mins version which makes better use of the cop and shaman characters. oddly compelling

I just had a hamburger. Stanley's second piece is a twisted tale of spirit and matter, sex and murder, and demons and grief.
