Exceeded my expectations. Will only really 'work' for people that a) have seen Trainspotting and b) are of the generation that grew up with and were influenced by the original film. There are lots of references to the original film (and soundtrack) and also Danny Boyle's other films. Superb acting from all the cast. A brilliant meditation on life. It goes a lot deeper than you might expect. Oh, and it's also hilarious. A gift for fans of the original.

A quote far from the truth with the sequel to the cult classic not betraying the expectations of the mass fan following it has acclaimed since its release 20 years ago. The intoxicating reunion of the four most famous heroin addicts takes audiences on an emotional journey as we learn where they are within their lives and how they got there. Boyle successfully retains his original directing style while delivering a realistic and believable modern plot as the paths of the four protagonists cross again. The onscreen chemistry of McGregor, Bremner, Miller and Carlyle has not disappeared over the years and strengthens the entire film making it a sequel not to be missed by any fan of the first movie.

Trainspotting holds a dear place in my heart and I was almost mortally opposed to a sequel but T2 blew me out of the water. It's a meditation on on aging and the roots of addiction. It's funny, well paced, and clear that Danny Boyle has matured as a director. It's exactly what it needed to be and I'm happy it exists. Go see it.
