I really enjoyed this but found myself wishing Hitchcock had directed it so they could have leaned into the menace more.

Incredible film. This film deals with a silent film era actress and her struggle to adapt to the changing times - especially sound in film. William Holden gives a wonderful performance as the witty screenwriter and Gloria Swanson performs amazingly as the elder actress Norma Desmond. Silent film actors such as Erich von Stroheim and Buster Keaten also feature as well as the director Cecil B. DeMille as himself. It is a brilliant look at the Hollywood scene after the lights have turned off and the camera has cut rolling. It has a brilliant screenplay, wonderful music, inspired photography and editing and is one of the best classics to ever come out of Hollywood.

My favorite movie of all time. Gloria Swanson is terrific as Norma Desmond, a former silent-film star who is struggling with the fact that she is aging and not the beauty she once was. William Holden is great in this movie too. It is disturbing and wonderful. Check it out. My review doesn't do it justice. Not even close. "Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close up"
