Amazingly well-crafted & performed story about the subjectivity of truth.

Not only a good movie by itself, it doesn't take much to see how enormously influential Rashomon was on film narrative. How mind-blowing is it to have multiple narrators reiterating the same story in entirely different ways?! This would make for a great courtroom movie, with each witness contradicting the other and giving wildly different scenarios. This is as deep as the movie gets: it's much too experimental, artsy and at times overblown (in the acting department, that is) to give us some of the more touching or human components found in Kurosawa's very best work. However, the production elements are outstanding and it is quite stimulating to see how differently the actors had to behave for such a short film. It's definitely a good palate cleanser after many of his longer or headier movies.

Excellent movie... if you love movies, you have to see this. Great story, great directing, great everything. 'Truth' is a relative term when several different accounts of the same crime are not only different, but also logically incompatible.

An amazing film classic that deals with the perception of truth. The film is beautiful in every aspect with strong characters and direction.

Story telling at its absolut best. 4 different versions of the truth. A rape, and a murder in the woods. Each version is an interesting look. It may not be Kurosawa's best but its a great film and had arguably the biggest impact in america of all japanese cinema.
