Rossellini scandalized the United States with this excellent and daring drama about an unfortunate woman stuck with small-minded people on a volcanic rock, and it hits us with powerful scenes that are hard to be forgotten, like the horrific tuna fishing and the volcano explosion.

Rossellini directs Stromboli w old school grit and realism which leads to some impressive sequences. Bergman gives the somewhat flat story pathos, specifically in the final act.

Ingrit Bergman is beautiful and so is the movie. Have been to Stromboli, which ads some feelings, but anyway a great film, especially the ending :-)

Stromboli multiplie les paradoxes : son filmage brut, voire simpliste, n'empÃªche pas l'explosion d'un grand lyrisme Ã©motionnel, en particulier dans les cÃ©lÃ¨bres et remarquables derniÃ¨res minutes ; le rÃ©alisme quasiment documentaire de certaines scÃ¨nes (la pÃªche au thon, impressionnante, et l'Ã©ruption du volcan, sans aucun effets spÃ©ciaux) contribue Ã construire la la symbolique et l'abstraction du sujet.

bergman's first film with rossellini. spectacular tuna fishing sequence, authentic view of rural life, but a bit melodramatic.
