Stray Cat Rock: Sex Hunter (1970)

Mako and her girl friends enter a dispute with rival street gangsters The Eagles, a band of racist macho pigs led by the evil Baron, who hate half-breeds. When one of the girls start dating a half-breed, they start a terror campaign to take all of them out of town. Mako and her gang fight back, helping their new friend Kazuma find his long gone sister.

Not very exploitative exploitation film about racial tension in Japan

Overall kind of boring, but there are enough interesting parts to make it through the relatively short running time. A lot of it is very dark in the hard-to-see way.

Film d'exploitation japonais d'une catÃ©gorie Pink and violent. DerriÃ¨re son titre ultra provocateur se cache une oeuvre dÃ©calÃ©e, oÃ¹ les scÃ¨nes de nus sont quasiment inexistantes (y en a plus dans les productions franÃ§aise de maintenant) mais parfois prÃ©sentes, l'humour et le jeu des acteurs nous donnent le sourire (tout est en dÃ©calage lÃ -aussi) et pourtant, le fond est prÃ©sent comme cette critique d'une sociÃ©tÃ© japonaise raciste et qui mÃ¨ne la vie dure Ã ces japonais dont le pÃ¨re est un ancien soldat amÃ©ricain. Il ne faisait pas bon d'Ãªtre mÃ©tisse lÃ -bas non plus. Au final, un bon moment avec une Meiko Kaji assez convaincante.

Kaji Meiko is great, but this movie had her standing around a lot more than i hoped for. i like her best when she is killing people.

As i see more and more of this Japanese "sukeban" (bad girls) flicks i can't help to get more surprised of the wide range this films covered. Not only they saw the light way before their american counter-parts, they contained both a more edgy approach and a degree of social commentary, in one way or another. Of course, there are many of this films that suck as equally as some that were made in other parts of the world at that time. But still, they were in most cases years a head in both visual flavour and content. Stray Cat Rock:Sex Hunter! (say it loud) is a fine example of the genre. Plus, it has Meiko Kaji on the lead role, and you just can't say not to a woman like her, unless you want her to throw a molotov cocktail right when your having one of your boring snobish parties. I just hope they release all the other films of this franchise in R1 one day. The R2 box set has no english subs, as usual -_-
