Really enjoyed this one. Orson Welles was so creative and his movies are smart--they feel literary. It seems like he didn't give a damn, as if he did whatever he found interesting with little worry as to how the movie was received.

Brilliant Expressionistic film noir, with a slightly dodgy Irish accent

Probably one of Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth's finest films. An awesome film noir that really twists and turns. It took me a second watch to really get it, but I loved it the first time. It's well acted, dark, creepy, visually stunning (as Welles' films tend to be), with a great plot, and extremely interesting characters. It also leads to one of the finest last scenes in film history. Oh and I'm not silly for being confused: Harry Cohn, head of Columbia Studios at the time was so baffled by the first edit of the film he ordered Welles to re-edit it, culling off almost an hour of footage to the version we see now. One can only hope that Columbia unearth the original edit, and release a directors cut.

rita hayworth is incredible in one of her best roles...the mirror maze sequence is one of the most creative film scenes of all time
