It's a pity that anything that has a hint of religiosity is killed by critics. This movie despite the poor reviews was actually pretty good. the performances were solid as Thos. Janes portrays an interrupted suicide and Larry Fishbourne, using his native Georgian accent, an interrupted hired killer. Sometimes interruptions work out well; and sometimes you should just let it go and move on, but it's hard to tell which in the beginning. We enjoyed it. Music was horrible.

Suspenseful, emotional thriller with amazing direction and performances. Cool looking too. Loved it! The music was great also. Both the background music and the song at the end. Short and sweet too. I find most movies too long and slow, but this was tight as a drum. It kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat the whole time. The three main actors were very strong. Laurence Fishburne like you've never seen him. Thomas Jane and the girl bring a tear to your eye. I found the whole thing very moving and heartfelt, which surprised me for what I expected to be just a suspense thriller. But it was so much more.

The concept might have worked better as a short, where the bookend action sequences would have had more impact and the extended middle stretch wouldn't have included so many silly twists and misguided stabs at moral complexity.

someone saw a high school play and wanted to make a feature of said play- leaving in all the overacted monologs and still plotlines.

Despite positioning itself as a simple throwback action B-movie, Standoff is actually much more evolved than it appears. Firstly, the three core characters are all brilliantly portrayed, even "Bird" who is played by a child actor was phenomenal. A bad performance from even one of these three would have brought the whole thing crashing down, thankfully all of them are dedicated to their respective roles. Even Lawrence Fishburne, whom I was worried would just be hear to take an easy paycheque and phone it in hard wound up actually giving the best I've seen from him in years. There are a couple of lulls in the middle of the piece, and a handful of underdeveloped side-plots. But it overall, and especially the climax, made Standoff a surprise hit for 2016.
