I was completely taken by surprise over this film. First it is technically a master piece. Shot by shot Ford takes breath away and prooves he is a trustworthy in technical merits. When it comes to characters he seems to fumble a bit but then in the midst of this film characters and narrative just clicks and you are taken by this great feeling of satisfaction - as this story was meant to be told and in this particular fashion. Then again at the end Ford fumbles a bit but the feeling that washes over is complete satisfaction.

Ford at his most poetic and Fonda at playing the laconic Wyatt Earp. The West has never been as mythical as seen in this picture.

I didn't think too much of this film when I saw it the first time 15 years ago. Just watched it again though and... WOW! Orson Welles was once asked which directors most influenced him. To which he replied, "John Ford, John Ford and John Ford."
