A tedious tale with perhaps the worst performance ever in a film by Lon Chaney, Jr. A fencepost has more charisma than Chaney as Count Alucard. Painfully slow and awkward.

I don't remember if anyone in this movie was actually the son of Dracula (from the first movie with Bela Lugosi), but this movie is entertaining and I enjoyed it.

Not really Dracula's son - this is the old man himself (and that's no spoiler). He's also played by Lon Chaney Jr who is frankly miscast and lacking the charm and sinister power that the role requires. The supporting cast are better and there the incidental charms of Universal's polished studio production but this is pretty routine time-passing stuff.

Chaney, who was certainly capable of good work, is nearly laughable in the title role, but the production design and cinematography exude an eerie mood, which (only slightly) makes this worth a look.

A very different sort of Dracula movie from Universal. This was during the second half of the studio's big horror boom and their second sequel-of-sorts to Dracula. Less about Dracula attacking people and more about a man's relationship with his lifelong love, who has fallen under the fanged one's spell. Frank Craven, as Dr. Brewster, gives a surprisingly modern and relaxed performance. Chaney, Jr was never too good as Dracula. Worth a look for fans of Universal's classic horror films.
