I love Lon Chaney Jr much like I love his father's work...but this wasn't the role for him. Hard to believe he's the son of Lugosi...but I can overlook that. The fact it takes place in a Louisiana bayou kind of bothers me too. Definitely not as strong as the original Dracula or Dracula's Daughter. Still fun and worth having though.

Chaney had the privilege of playing Frankenstein's monster, the Wolfman (of course) and here in America, Drac's son. He's no Bela Legosi. Mostly he stands around and does nothing besides keeping his coffin in a swamp. Allbritton is more interesting as a woman with occult interests seeking immortality.

Lon Chaney, Jr's performance as Dracula doesn't hold a candle to either Bela Legosi, who played the original Dracula, or to Chaney's father, the great "Man of a 1000 Faces", Lon Chaney. This film -- to me anyway -- brought the series to a screaming halt. Not atmospheric or scary or anything except boring. The only thing to recommend it is some nice bat-to-human transformation scenes. It's obviously hand-drawn animation, but it still looks pretty good.
