Sir! No Sir! (2005)

Sir! No Sir! is a documentary film about the anti-war movement within the ranks of the United States Military during the Vietnam War. It consists in part of interviews with Vietnam veterans explaining the reasons they protested the war or even defected. The film tells the story of how, from the very start of the war, there was resentment within the ranks over the difference between the conflict in Vietnam and the "good wars" that their fathers had fought. Over time, it became apparent that so many were opposed to the war that they could speak of a movement.

I've evolved into something of a documentary nut of late, and I've been loving everything I get my hands on. This one happens to be about Vietnam and everything encompassing it--mainly focusing on the GI antiwar movement. It serves as a cautionary tale that is incredibly similar to our current predicament. Unfortunately, the American public is prone to blackouts in their memory of history and our country. Thank the media for brainwashing the sense out of all of us. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Like "Winter Soldier," Sir! No Sir! will surely reopen old wounds, as the Vietnam War -- like the Civil War 100 years before -- refuses to die. But hawks and doves alike should be grateful to Zeiger for preserving a fascinating piece of American cultural history.

A powerful documentary that uncovers half-forgotten history, history that is still relevant but not in ways you might be expecting.

Illuminates the past while providing lessons for today's peace movement. An outstanding documentary.

This movie has special meaning for me because some of my friends were there where the action was. I remember those days and I learned a lot from the movie and the GI activists involved in the resistance movement during the Viet Nam era. My then husband and I were part of the GI resistance movement in Europe.
