Kubrick constructs a powerfully dark war film using the elements he so adamantly condemns.

A mixture of dark comedy, violence and good-acting makes Full Metal Jacket one of the best war films ever

I love all Kubrick's films. Full Metal Jacket is my favourite. The genius of Kubrick made his war and army film stand far above all war or army films. The very young and talented Matthew Modine, Vincent D´Onofrio and Adam Baldwin played their career defining roles. Once an army recruit myself nearly four decades ago, the hellish marine training scenes truly struck a cord of bitter sweet reminiscence. Perhaps the most famous film to also stereotyped asian prostitutes catchy soliciting phrase ´Me so horny, me love you long time´. Kubrick didn´t spare us racists references like gooks and niggers that added realism. They came quick and fast as the marines got mired in the unwinnable Vietnam war. The horrors of a well hidden enemy sniper inflicting casualties on a passing section of marines was brilliantly conveyed. Even when the sniper wore two pony tails.

A war film with incredible depth, delving deep into the psychology of soldiers. Showing that even when you brutally de-humanise soldiers to make them efficient and prepared for a bloody Vietnam War. When faced with unthinkable circumstances, even the cruel harsh training which director Stanley Kubrick depicts cannot stop them from irrationally losing their heads. (A classic war film so watch with war film lovers)

You don't know war until you see 3 films: 'Apocalypse Now', 'Saving Private Ryan', and Stanley Kubrick's 'Full Metal Jacket.' Joker, Private Pile, and Srgt. Hartman are the characters that affected me the most. Joker's stance on peace, Pile's transformation from a lovable underdog to suicidal psychotic, and Srgt. Hartman's villainous tirade on all his maggots. Considering this is Stanley's final war film, I'd safely say it ended that part of his career with a bang (no pun intended.)
