The debate will always rage as to which film is the best of the Vietnam war movies, but my money remains on Full Metal Jacket. Stanley Kubrick's phenomenal direction on top of several unforgettable characters make this a must see and a must own.

One of the best Vietnam movies ever made. So many characters are still remembered to this day. Gunny made a career out of this movie.

Second only to Coppola's masterful "Apocalypse Now", Kubrick's examination of the Vietnam war chronicals the lifespan of a killer manufactured by a government and an army that, under all its swagger and bravado and iconography, is simply engaged in a systemic indoctrination of human beings into the cult of death, blind patriotism, brutality, violence, and horror resulting in inhuman insanity to protect its own interests. The fact that it's hilarious is just icing on the cake.

Well must admit I was wrong before when I said it wasnt a great film because this is a brilliant film that shows Marines development from grunt level through to joining the war in Vietnam. Its very edgy and probably the most accurate movie based on that war. Not as good as some of Kubrick's other work but then again he is a master of his trade and has many memorable films and this is another
