Sharad of Atlantis (1936)

Crash Corrigan, a recent graduate of Annapolis, and Diana, a go-getting reporter, join Professor Norton for a search for the source of a string of earthquakes, Atlantis. They ride Prof. Norton's rocket submarine searching the sea and little Billy Norton, the professor's son stows away, of course. When they find Atlantis they are caught in a war between peaceful Atlanteans, note their white capes, and war-monging Atlanteans, note their black capes. After many harrowing moments for Crash, Diana, Prof. Norton and Billy, they barely get away with their lives when they escape a tower of Atlantis raised to the surface for the sole purpose of dominating or destroying the Earth (Which one depends on the compliance of the upper world dwellers.

Long, dreadfully boring, and laughably bad. The characters are not interesting, the overall plot is silly, and the costumes are hilarious looking. While it may seem funny though, it's a long bland watch.

Crash Corrigan sets about diving below the seas surface into an undersea kingdom to investigate why earthquakes are causing mass distruction. He descovers that a mad tyrant Khan is planning on ruling the earth with his discructive weapons and Crash sets about distroying them. Classic old serial with a good story and action.

A re-tread Republic serial akin capitalizing on Flash Gordon serials it uses some stock footage from Gene Autry's Phantom Empire, and a carbon copy Ming The Merciless bad guy, but it makes up in the story telling. While not ground breaking the serial is a fun series and well plotted out fantasy adventure. I have young kids and they totally became engrossed in the story. Afterwards they began making thier own lego submarines.
