amazing movie! i normally dont like old films but this one was great!

Best WWI movie of all time. Gary Cooper is brilliant as hellbent Alvin who hesitantly becomes hero Sgt. York. Walter Brennan is fantastic as the old time preacher who helps young York "find religion." Movie gives you a really good look at back woods Appalachia before the Old USof A was "on the map."

Wonderful character actors in this one, particularly the mother. Classic Gary Cooper.

My only complaint is Coop looks too old for Alvin. Other than that, a great performance and a great movie. Walter Brennan is also stellar as the pastor.

I think this is a very good movie about a man struggling with his new found faith and then having to put that faith to full use as he goes into battle and comes out a war hero.
